£20,000 reward offered for information about murder in Peckham Rye

Crimestoppers have offered £20,000 for information related to the murder of Jobari Gooden in Peckham on Friday.

Police have also released footage of a person they would like to speak to as part of their investigation.

The individual is described as a Black male, wearing grey trousers, black shoes and a dark jacket with distinctive orange writing on the left hand side of the chest and across the upper back.

Jobari was murdered on Friday, December 17, in Peckham Rye Area in broad daylight.

Police responded to reports of a man being stabbed outside House of Ramish 2 Barbers on Choumert Road at around 3.15pm last Friday.

Jobari, 27, was found on Rye Lane with stab wounds. He was taken to hospital where he later died.

The incident took place in the middle of a parade of shops in the afternoon, and detectives believe there were a large number of witnesses.

The independent charity Crimestoppers UK have announced that they will be supporting the investigation by offering £20,000 to anyone who can share information related to the murder which leads to a conviction.

Detectives investigating the case have also launched an online portal where members of the public to submit evidence including videos and pictures.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command said: “Our priority here is finding the person or persons responsible for Jobari’s death, and to support his family.

“We want to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of Peckham Rye area on Friday between 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

“Did you see Jobari with anyone in the hours leading up to when he was killed, an argument or fight? Can you help Jobari’s family understand why this happened?

“I want to underline the message that if you are not comfortable speaking to police, you can speak with Crimestoppers completely anonymously.

“Computer IP addresses are never traced and no-one will ever know you contacted Crimestoppers. For telephone calls, there is no caller line display and calls have never been traced. Please seriously consider coming forward with anything you know.

“We have no doubt that the way that Jobari was killed – in such a public place and in the middle of the afternoon – will cause alarm to Peckham’s community, and we have stepped up a visible policing presence in order to support them.

“Our officers are on hand for anything you need, so please don’t hesitate to air your concerns with them.”
