70 firefighters and 10 fire engines called out to flat fire in Battersea
A woman and a child have been taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a flat in Battersea last night.
Ten fire engines and 70 firefighters were called to the fire at around 8pm, which was at a block of flats on Westbridge Road.
By the time the fire brigade arrived, two people had left the flat on the 20th floor and 50 people had evacuated the building.
The fire was under control by 9pm, but the flat was destroyed.

Station Commander Pete Johnson, who was at the scene, said: “Crews were faced with a lot of smoke issuing from the top of a block of flats on arrival.
“There was also lots of visible flame which has prompted a high number of calls to our Control Officers.
“Firefighters worked quickly to bring the fire under control.”
Fire crews from Battersea, Fulham, Wandsworth, North Kensington and surrounding fire stations were at the scene.
The fire is believed to have been accidental and involved a candle.
