Residents stage protest calling for ceasefire in Israel-Palestine conflict

Members of the Merton Palestine Solidarity Campaign (MPSC) came together on Saturday to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The group gathered in Merton High Street, Colliers Wood, opposite Sainsbury’s, waving Palestinian flags and holding placards which read Stop arming Israel, Stop the massacre and Stop ethnic cleansing.

Jackie Schneider, secretary of MPSC, said: “It is time politicians of all parties listened to the people they are supposed to be representing, ordinary people are horrified at the killing of thousands of innocent civilians, we mourn every single loss of life.

“A ceasefire is needed now.”

About 28,473 Palestinians have been killed and more than 68,000 wounded in Gaza since  October 7, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

The MPSC group are meeting on Saturday at South Wimbledon Tube station to join the National March Global Day to Stop Genocide in Gaza which will take place in central London.
