A man has appeared in court after a woman was stabbed to death in the early hours of Easter Sunday

A man has appeared in court today after a woman in her 50s was stabbed to death in the early hours of Easter Sunday.

Vasile Bratu, 39, of no fixed address appeared at Bexley Magistrates’ Court today where he was remanded in custody and next appears at the Old Bailey on Friday.

Police and London Ambulance Service were called just before 2.30am on Sunday to a seriously injured woman inside a block of flats in Ravine Grove in Greenwich.

Officers found a woman suffering stab injuries and despite the efforts of paramedics, the woman died around an hour later.

Bratu and the woman are believed to have been known to each other.

A post-mortem examination that took place earlier this week at Greenwich Mortuary gave cause of death as a stab wound.

Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command investigate.

Officers continue to work to inform all next of kin but a formal identification awaits.
