Block of flats with 58 new homes to be built in Greenwich

A block of flats with 58 new homes is set to be built in Greenwich after the plans received planning permission.

The new scheme is set for construction at 141-143 Woolwich Road and will redevelop a brownfield site into new homes and 890 sq m of flexible commercial space.

The plans have been developed in collaboration with Greenwich council, the Greenwich Society, local ward councillors and residents.

The concept is for two apartment ‘villa’ buildings linked via arched colonnades, with a rhythm informed by the Victorian grain and the curvature of Woolwich Road.

The project architects Scott Brownrigg said the design protects daylight levels to adjacent homes.

Comprising a mix of one, two and three-bedroom homes and four family maisonettes, the scheme is tenure blind, and offers a mix of private, affordable rent and shared ownership housing provision.

The scheme connects local bus, rail and cycle networks, including Transport for London’s (TfL) Cycleway 4 which, once complete, will create a continuous link between Tower Bridge and Greenwich, with improved public spaces and facilities for pedestrians.
