Brixton shooting: Deliveroo driver and Drill rapper killed after car chase

A Deliveroo driver and a Drill rapper have been named locally as the victims of the double killing in Brixton last night.

The Met confirmed the Deliveroo driver, who has been locally identified as Brazilian national Guilherme Messias da Silva, aged 21, died as a result of a collision with one of two cars involved in a chase in Railton Road at around 7.50pm.

After the crash, a man from the car involved in the collision got out of the vehicle and was chased by a man from the second car who was armed with a gun.

The man running away was shot and died at the scene. He has been named online as Drill rapper Perm.

The gunman returned to his car and left the scene.

Residents in the street said they heard as many as 12 gunshots fired after the crash.

Christian Torres, aged 19, who has lived on the road for more than five years said he heard a “loud crash” and saw a motorbike and two cars outside.

“I heard a loud crash outside and went to check but then I heard gunshots so I ducked back inside. I heard a guy shouting ‘go, go, go’. It was right in front of my house.

“The police tried to break down the door of one of the [nearby] houses. I think they thought they were hiding in there.

“I was in my room and I recorded it, I was already on a call with my friend when I heard the crash and ended it then I started recording as I heard the shots. I was at the door when I heard gunshots and went back in. I [have] never heard gunshots before, it was so loud.

“The police came then an ambulance, I saw them giving CPR to guy next to the bus stop.

“It was weird, it’s kind of like a movie. I wasn’t expecting gunshots around here, it’s usually quiet.”

Ben Simby, 25, said he was now “scared” of the area.

“I’ve only been here for three months,” he said. “It makes me feel uneasy, I usually run down the street but now I’m scared. It’s a nice community around here and usually quiet.

A man working in the Brixton Housing co-op in Railton Road said he did not see what happened but the incident took place outside of his friend’s house as he was putting his baby to bed.

“He said he heard around 10 gunshots,” said the man. “Then he saw a black Mercedes fly down Barnwell Road. He said it was a headshot and the man [who was shot] was not breathing.”

A number of roads in the area remain closed and crime scenes are in place. The Met said post-mortems will be held in due course.

At this stage, there have been no arrests and enquiries continue.

Chief superintendent Colin Wingrove of the Central South Command Unit, responsible for policing Lambeth and Southwark, said: “I am shocked and saddened by this incident. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the two young men who have tragically lost their lives.

“This incident will cause a great deal of concern throughout the local community and across London.

“We are supporting Specialist Crime detectives, who are working at pace to confirm the specific sequence of events and identify and arrest those responsible.

“Local officers are on the scene and patrolling the local area to speak to local residents, seek witnesses and provide visible reassurance. I would urge anyone with any information however small to come forward to help bring whoever is responsible to justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101 quoting reference CAD 6166/30Oct. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
