Bromley care home staff feted for excellence in their field

Staff at a Bromley care home have been honoured for their expertise, dedication and compassion.

Natasha Leslie, manager of Coloma Court Care Home, was named the winner of the Emerging Leader category at the Healthcare Management Trust’s (HMT) Growing Heroes Awards.

Her colleague Apolonia Mandinyenya, a unit manager, was named the winner of the Awesomely Authentic category; and the team behind a project to improve residents’ sleep were named the Creatively Collaborative winners.

HMT manages Coloma Court as well as other health and social care facilities around the UK.

The awards had 10 categories including emerging leader, creatively collaborative, superb support and energetically enterprising. More than 140 nominations were made, and the winners were named at a special celebration event in Durham, attended by more than 100 members of staff.

Speaking about her award, Natasha said: “I feel truly honoured to receive the award for the emerging leader, I will continue to share my knowledge and practices to ensure those who work alongside me understand HMT, priorities, behaviours and values and enable others to use their creativity to shine.”

The 2icCare project team was awarded the Creatively Collaborative prize. The project has implemented Andi – a remote monitoring system at Coloma Court, which keeps track of an individual’s movements, light levels, accessing the bathroom and watching television during the day. It aims to reduce falls and improve decision-making, and so far, has seen positive results.

The team said: “The 2ic-care project was a real team effort both internally and externally with our partners. We all went on a journey of discovery which ultimately will benefit our residents.”

Nichola Stefanou, chief executive of HMT, said: “As we begin our 40th year as a Trust, we are proud to honour the dedicated people across our sites who work tirelessly to improve patient care and our services.

“The Growing Heroes Awards shine a light on their passion, expertise, and unwavering commitment and we are immensely grateful for all they do.”
