Building work starts on enormous animal hospital

Building work has started on the biggest veterinary referral centre within the M25, which is set to open its doors next year.

The 12,000sq ft animal hospital in Chancellor’s Road, Hammersmith, will be the new home for the London Vet Specialists (LVS), which is currently based in Belsize Park, Camden.

LVS will also be expanding its team of specialists after the move, which will give the vets the capacity to accept more referral cases.

Located next to the River Thames, the new LVS facility will have nine consult rooms, a surgical suite containing three surgical theatres, a separate intensive care ward and an isolation ward.

Cats will be getting specialist treatment with a dedicated cat waiting area, separate cat ward and cat-specific procedure and exercise rooms.

Among the services available at the new centre are diagnostic imaging, neurology, anesthesia, dermatology, cardiology, ophthalmology, oncology, soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics and emergency and critical care.

The Hammersmith vets will also be the first static high-field MRI for veterinary use in London, supported by a specialist neurology service. There will also be a CT scanner and on-site laboratory to enable rapid diagnosis.

Emma Laws, hospital director at LVS, said: “The move to Hammersmith is a major milestone for LVS and one we are incredibly excited about.

“It’s a much larger site than our current centre and will house some of the UK’s top veterinary specialists and state-of-the-art equipment, which will help us continue to provide the best treatment possible for patients.

“We’re already recruiting for a range of positions at the new hospital, so I’d encourage anyone who would like to find out more about working with our team to get in touch.”
