Campaign launched to encourage vaccination uptake
A new campaign has been launched to increase vaccination rates.
Why We Get Vaccinated has been co-produced by London health partners alongside communities with a low vaccination uptake, and aims to encourage people to have open conversations about the importance of vaccines.
Dr Angela Bhan, specialist public health doctor and place director for Bromley, said: “Vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to protect ourselves and our loved ones from serious illness from viruses.
“I encourage South east London communities to take this opportunity to speak with a healthcare professional, ask questions, and get vaccinated to keep our communities healthy and safe.”
London has some of the lowest vaccination rates in the UK. Recent data from NHS England shows vaccination coverage across the capital decreased for all childhood vaccinations in 2023-2024, with no childhood vaccines meeting the WHO target of 95 per cent coverage in order to prevent the spread of disease.
The Why We Get Vaccinated campaign is designed to build trust between health services and the public by featuring real experiences from residents, healthcare professionals, and community leaders from across London.
Flu and COVID-19 vaccinations are now available to book at a range of vaccination clinics, GP surgeries and community pharmacies across south east London.
These vaccines will reduce the risk of serious illness from these viruses.
