Charity helps deliver meals to vulnerable in lockdown

A charity has committed to deliver restaurant-made meals to those struggling in lockdown.

Crystal Palace-based charity Invisible Palace has partnered with Paxton Green Time Bank, and Gipsy Hill Indian restaurant and takeaway Eastern Cuisine, to provide 60 meals a week to members of the Gipsy Hill community.

Invisible Palace works to ensure that Crystal Palace’s community assets are available for the benefit of all communities.

With the help of Paxton Green Bank and Eastern Cuisine, the charity has provided meals for those either isolating due to age or health, or experiencing food poverty as a result of Covid-19.

Labour MP Helen Hayes and Councillor Andy Simmons assisted in the delivery of meals to residents on the Kingswood Estate on May 14.

Ms Hayes said: “Eastern Cuisine is a brilliant community-focused local business working with Paxton Green Time Bank and Invisible Palace to distribute their delicious hot food every week to local families struggling during lockdown. We are lucky to have them.”

A spokesman from Invisible Palace said “Eastern Cuisine sponsored our community planting of the Vicar’s Oak entrance to Crystal Palace Park.

“Knowing that we focus on social inclusion they turned to us for advice on how to help communities in these difficult times.

“Our volunteers have been fantastic in delivering meals and a smile. It has been great to support a local business which continues to support us.”

Eastern Cuisine also provides daily free meals to over 70s in surrounding streets.
