Cops granted power to stop and search anyone after man stabbed to death
A stop-and-search order for the whole borough of Lambeth is in operation after a man was stabbed to death earlier today in Brixton.
The man was stabbed in Morrison Road just after noon, and emergency services were called to the scene.
Met officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found a man, aged in his early 20s, with “serious stab injuries”.
Despite the efforts of officers and paramedics, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A crime scene is in place in Morrison Road and the met confirmed there have been no arrests so far.
The Met has decided to make a section 60 order for the whole of Lambeth.
There are about 330,000 people living in the borough from 1pm today until 4pm tomorrow. It means police officers can search anyone they want within the area that is under the order, and will not need the “reasonable grounds” that are usually legally required to stop and search someone.
A Section 60 authorisation has been declared across the Borough of Lambeth by Inspector Mkinsi. It will last from 13:00 today (4th September) until 04:00 tomorrow (5th September).
