The Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating after the
discovery of a woman’s body in Blackheath.

Police were called to garages in Prendergast Road, Blackheath at around 5pm on Friday following reports that a body had been found at the location.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be formally established, however, the family of a woman reported missing on May 15 have been informed.

A post-mortem held at Greenwich mortuary on Sunday was not able to establish cause of death, which is being treated as suspicious.

A murder investigation has been launched by the Homicide and Major Crime Command and a crime scene remains in place.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector David Blair is leading the investigation.

He said: “Although cause of death has not been determined, the woman who was sadly found deceased has injuries suggestive of third party involvement.

“The identity of the victim has not been formally established but we are liaising with the family of a woman in her 50s from South London who was reported as a missing person.

“At this stage we are working hard to establish the circumstances of the woman’s death, which is being investigated as a murder.

“Please contact my team if you have information which could help our enquiries.”

There have been no arrests at this time and enquiries into the full circumstances continue.

Anyone with information concerning this murder is asked to call police on 020 8721 4961 or via Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111.
