Council brings in 111 new e-bike parking bays to encourage active travel

By Kelsey McCabe

A new council program will see the installation of 111 e-bike parking bays over the next month.

From today, Wandsworth council will begin a scheme to install e-bike parking bays in order to encourage a convenient, low-carbon method of sustainable travel for residents.

David Tidley, head of transport strategy at Wandsworth, said: “We are really pleased that there have already been more than a million journeys made by e-bike in Wandsworth, but residents will know that there have been some challenges, with a small minority of riders abandoning bikes without any thought for pedestrians and local communities.

“These new bays will help riders to park in fixed town-centre locations and encourage considerate parking.”

Locations for the new parking bays will include Clapham Junction, Tooting Broadway, Tooting Bec, Wandsworth Town, Balham and Putney.

The installation process is expected to take four weeks, with a further wave of new parking bays to follow later this year.
