Cribbage players hand over £1,400 cheque to Lewisham Hospital’s critical care unit

A cribbage league handed over a cheque for £1,400 to a hospital after raising the funds at its annual charity evening.

The South-east London Crib League’s annual charity took place in December at the Morden Arms pub in Greenwich and last week they handed over the money raised to Lewisham Hospital’s critical care unit.

One of the crib league’s players received treatment in the unit and since then the league has donated more than £4,500 to the ward towards purchasing equipment and improving facilities.

Martine Rooney, Matron of the Critical Care Unit, said: “As mentioned when you handed over the cheque last year, the funds you guys raise are being put towards a big project.

“We are aspiring to open up some kind of outdoor space where we can take the patients from Critical Care, this is a huge challenge but we believe we can achieve it.

“A space has been identified and a team of architects have been in to scope the project to ascertain the feasibility of it. I will keep you up to date about any further developments.

“Once again thank you all for your kindness and the hospital and its friends have donated two hampers to going into your charity auction for us.
