Customer suspected of setting Curry’s store on fire

Police are investigating a fire at a Curry’s store in Sydenham after a customer allegedly set it on fire.

Police and the London Fire Brigade (LFB) were called to reports of a fire at the Curry’s on the Bell Green Retail Park at around 3.30pm on Wednesday.

Four fire engines and about 25 firefighters tackled the blaze, which damaged part of the single-storey retail shop.

There were no reports of any injuries, the LFB said.

Police have said that the fire was allegedly started by a customer.

No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.

A spokeswoman for the LFB said: “The fire was brought under control by 4.09pm. Crews from Forest Hill, Lewisham, Greenwich and Woodside fire stations attended the scene.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation by the brigade and the Metropolitan Police.”

A spokesman for the Met said: “Anyone who has any information that could help should call police on 101, quoting CAD 4644/10Apr.”
