Another man in 20s arrested after the shooting of BLM activist Sasha Johnson in Peckham

Detectives investigating the shooting of Black Lives Matter (BLM) activist Sasha Johnson in Peckham have made a further arrest in the early hours of this morning.

A 25-year-old man was arrested this morning at a residential address in Kent on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

He has been taken to a police station where he remains in custody.

Ms Johnson, a mother-of-two, was shot in Peckham in the early hours of Sunday, May 23.

Officers were called shortly before 3am on following reports of gunshots in Consort Road.

They attended with London Ambulance Service paramedics where they found a 27-year-old woman who had been shot.

She was later named as 27-year-old Sasha Johnson.

Four men currently remain on bail until a date in late June.

Two men have been charged in connection with the investigation.

A man, believed to be aged in his 20s, also suffered a knife injury during the incident. He attended hospital and was discharged following treatment.

Ms Johnson, who works in community activism and community support and got a first in social care from Ruskin College in Oxford, has been a leading figure in the BLM movement in the UK and is a member of the Taking the Initiative Party’s leadership committee.

Earlier this month, Ms Johnson’s mother, Ellet Dalling, appealed to the public to come forward with any information.

She said: “What has happened to Sasha has left us devastated.

“She is currently fighting for her life in hospital with two children asking where their mummy is, what do I tell them? Someone must have information to what happened and to come forward.

“Sasha is passionate about standing up for others, please come forward and stand up for Sasha.

“Come forward to help us, I know it is not always easy but imagine if it was your daughter or the mother of your children.

“I believe there are people out there that can help.”
