Residents ‘scared to walk home at night’ after fatal Brixton stabbing

Residents have said they are “scared to walk home at night” after a fatal stabbing in broad daylight yesterday.

A 22-year-old man was stabbed to death at around 4.45pm yesterday in Coldharbour Lane, Brixton.

May, 62, and Will, 63, who live close to the crime scene but did not want to be fully identified, said they felt “scared” to be living in the area.

May said: “It’s so scary, and it keeps happening. Now I’m scared to walk home at night. It didn’t used to be like this.”

Will added: “The whole area is blocked off by police.

“It has caused so much disruption to the area. We’re walking all over the place just trying to get around the scene.”

The Met have confirmed that the attacker is still on the loose as an investigation is launched.

The whole of Coldharbour Lane past Atlantic Road and a number of nearby side streets remain cordoned off with police tape.

Four police vehicles were parked near the scene and several officers are standing watch.

A group of mourners had gathered near the police tape.

Another resident, who asked not to be named, said: “I came back from my night shift yesterday and saw everything cordoned off.

“I heard someone had been killed and it’s so scary. I’m scared to walk home from work now after a late shift.”

Police were called at around 4.45pm yesterday to reports of a stabbing in Coldharbour Lane.

The Met and London Ambulance Service officers attended, but the man died at the scene.

A Met spokesman said: “Work is ongoing to identify and inform his next of kin. At this early stage there has been no arrest.

“A crime scene is in place and officers remain on scene.

“Anyone who witnessed this incident or has information or footage should call police on 101 or ‘X’ @MetCC quoting 5530/3OCT.”
