Five escape from Camberwell pub blaze

Five people escaped a blaze at a pub with flats above it.
Twenty-five firefighters and four fire engines fought the flames on top of ‘The Kennington’ pub, which is on the junction of Foxley Road and Camberwell New Road, in Camberwell.
London Fire Brigade was called at 8.25am, and the fire was under control by 9.30am.
A room on the third floor was destroyed by the blaze, but fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries.
Twitter user @Retzback_Shaun saw the smoke roaming the Camberwell skyline.
He said: “Fire on Foxley Road… hope it’s not @TheKennington or @WSKennington ! Keep those doors and windows closed #KenningtonPark Hope everyone (sic) safe @KenningtonRUN @SthLondonPress.”
Another Twitter user, @Lizetta also saw the plumes of smoke emerging from the building.
She said: “We could see the smoke drifting over the rooftops from Camberwell Road.
“Fingers crossed everyone is safe.”
Crews from Lambeth, Peckham and Brixton fire stations helped tackle the blaze, after receiving 11 emergency calls.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
