Generous girls’ school rallies to raise funds for earthquake victims

Pupils, staff and families at a girls’ school raised an impressive £1,500 within a day for Action Aid’s Syria & Turkey Earthquake crisis appeal.

The Falcons School for Girls, in Woodborough Road, Putney, hosted a non-uniform day just before half-term, to encourage their community to donate to the school’s fundraising for the crisis charity supporting those affected by the earthquake tragedy.

Headteacher Sara Williams-Ryan said: “Watching these upsetting scenes unfold on the news, I felt we urgently had to do something as a school, to help those in crisis in Syria and Turkey.

“Our empathetic pupils are very much engaged in their important roles as global citizens, and we are lucky to have a very generous school community that we knew would be quick to support this appeal.

“Thank you to all families and staff who kindly donated. We are delighted to have raised £1,500 from the non-uniform day, which is being donated to Action Aid, which is doing an incredible job supporting families and those in need in the areas of devastation in Syria and Turkey.”

An Action Aid spokesman said: ‘Thank you so much. This is an incredible effort and we’re so grateful to everyone involved in this fundraiser for our earthquake appeal.”
