Greenwich apprenticeship provider given ‘inadequate’ rating for high number of drop-outs

An apprenticeship training provider has received the worst possible rating after inspectors found apprentices were dropping out before achieving their qualifications.
Beats Learning Limited in Blackheath, Greenwich, was rated inadequate in an Ofsted report published last week, following an inspection in July.
The report criticised the provider for the quality of education, its management and staff attitude, and also found students’ attendance was not being monitored.
The provider gives training to apprentices for adult care, as well as business administration, sports coaching and content production.
The report said apprentices felt “demotivated and [lacked] enthusiasm” due to the progress they made.
The low quality of education was attributed to trustees not challenging the leaders of programmes enough to improve their teaching.
Specifically, the maths curriculum was criticised, with apprentices not learning the skills they required for work.
Given the standard of teaching, few individuals claimed to have successfully completed their apprenticeships.
The report said: “Leaders do not monitor effectively the progress apprentices make. Consequently, leaders do not intervene when apprentices fall behind. Very few apprentices complete their apprenticeship successfully and the vast majority leave the programme before it ends.”
Regarding the report, a spokesman from Beats Learning Limited said: “Beats Learning can confirm that a new board of directors and robust action plan have been put in place to support the service on its improvement journey and significant progress has been made since the inspection.
“Ofsted confirmed they will be revisiting the centre within six months, and we are looking forward to them inspecting our new and improved provision.”
