Greenwich man convicted of manslaughter after his girlfriend dies from head injuries

A man has been convicted of manslaughter after his girlfriend died from head injuries.

Ricky Woodford, 42, of Henwick Road, Greenwich, was convicted of the manslaughter of Sarah Smith by diminished responsibility at the Old Bailey on Monday.

He has been remanded in custody for sentencing at the same court on November 11.

Cops were called at just before 10.30pm on Friday, October 30, last year, to concerns for the welfare of the occupants at a his address in Henwick Road.

Officers attended and found the body of 39-year-old Sarah, also from Greenwich.

Woodford was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and taken into custody.

A post-mortem examination conducted at Greenwich Mortuary on Sunday, November 1 2020, found her cause of death to have been head injuries.

Detective Inspector Karen Bangs said: “Our thoughts remain with Sarah’s family, who continue to mourn her untimely loss and will do so for a very long time to come.”
