Grenfell: Rapper condemns Government ‘inaction’ with empowering new track

Rapper Big Zuu has released a new song that hits out at “Government inaction” and offers a voice for the Grenfell community.

The track titled No Justice 4 Grenfell, No Peace, was released on Spotify yesterday and aims to  “turn up the volume” on the Government, after six-and-a-half years of “delays”.

Big Zuu said he wanted the song to capture the frustration and desperation of a community who feel “forgotten” by the delayed public inquiry report into the fire which killed 72 people in June 2017.

Big Zuu’s lyrics include: “Feels like we’ve been waiting for time but we will never forget and we’re here to remind.

“Take it to the streets there’s power when we walk. No justice for Grenfell, no peace.”

Grenfell campaigners gathered by the Wall of Truth near the Grenfell Tower on Sunday to launch the new track –  created by local music producer Toddla T and rapper Zuhair Hassan, known as Big Zuu.

Sitting underneath the Westway flyover, the Wall of Truth was created in the days immediately after the tragedy and has been used as a site of memorial services and healing since.

Damel Carayol, who lost two family members, Khadijah Saye and Mary Mendy, in the fire said: “We are still waiting for justice.

“We are watching you and now you can hear us.”

It was announced by the Grenfell Inquiry last month, that its final report will not be published before April next year.

Yvette Williams, Justice4Grenfell group organiser,  said: “Six-and-a-half years on, with countless peaceful protests and a shamefully delayed public Inquiry report, it is clear that being quiet doesn’t work.

“So maybe if we are loud, the Government will hear us.

“Maybe if we are loud they will listen and serve justice to the 72 who died needlessly in our community that night on June 14 2017.”

All proceeds from the release will be going to the victim and survivor support group, Justice4Grenfell and the Grenfell memorial garden – Hope Garden.

A Department of Levelling Up and Communities spokesman said: “We are introducing a new building safety regime through our landmark Building Safety Act.

“It is absolutely unacceptable for anyone to have to live in an unsafe building, and owners and developers must act quickly to fix any dangerous defects so residents can finally get on with their lives.

“We are taking action through our remediation funds to end the suffering for innocent people caught up in the crisis. We must deliver justice for all and ensure such a tragedy never happens again.”
