Huge fire breaks out in flats as 150 people evacuated
A huge fire broke out in a block of flats forcing 150 people to be evacuated yesterday afternoon.
The blaze ripped through a flat and part of the roof on the top floor of the four-storey building in Howick Place, Westminster.
Twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters arrived at the scene after more than 100 people had managed to escape.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) reported heavy traffic disruption on the surrounding roads throughout the afternoon.
The LFB was called at around 1pm and the fire was under control by around 6pm.
Fire crews from Soho, Chelsea, Euston and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
A spokesman for the LFB said: “The cause of the fire will be investigated.”
