“I’m still in shock,” he said. “A brick scraped my shoulder and neck. I don’t know whether it’s adrenaline, it was traumatising.

“The whole thing came down and I was closest to it.

“I ran over to make sure there was no one under the bricks. I’m just glad there wasn’t a body under that rubble.

“It’s fortunate no one was on the path at the time otherwise there would have been a fatality.”

Mr Simoes said the the wall that is attached to at least three houses at the top of the building above the Tudor windows fell down.

He said debris had also fallen onto a car parked in the street which was damaged.

Mr Simoes confirmed that the London Fire Brigade (LFB) and Metropolitan Police were on the scene.

A LFB spokeswoman said: “Firefighters have been called to a building collapse in Stockwell Avenue in Brixton.

“The parapet on the roof of two buildings converted into flats collapsed into the street below.

“Surrounding properties have been evacuated as a precaution and a 25-metre cordon is in place. There are currently no reports of any injuries.
