Lambeth brothers complain of “disrespect” after graves left unkempt by council
Two brothers have complained of the “disrespect” shown by the council over lack of upkeep at Lambeth Cemetery.
Daniel Taylor, from Bermondsey, and his brother Graham Taylor, from Basingstoke, were visiting their mother and brother’s graves at the cemetery in Blackshaw Road when they found fallen branches across graves and uncut grass.
The grass was so high in places it covered some of the graves.
Daniel said: “Why are they not kept up to a standard that we should all be proud of? There is no excuse for the total disrespect shown.”
Daniel and his wife, who visit the graves every four to five weeks, often trim the grass around the graves themselves.
A Lambeth Council spokesman said: “Our grass-cutting team works around each of our cemeteries in turn on an approximately six-week cycle. Due to the recent good weather the grass has been growing very quickly.
“Our teams continue their hard work in maintaining the borough’s cemeteries on behalf of our community, and the issues raised will be addressed.”
