Lambeth council will spend £300k worth of improvements on Stockwell skatepark

One of London’s oldest skateparks is set for a big money upgrade.
Lambeth council said £300k will be spent on improving Stockwell skatepark.
Plans include adding a new surface, increasing capacity and redesigning parts of the park to improve the skating experience.
Councillor Sonia Winifred, cabinet member for equalities and culture, said: “We want to make sure Stockwell skatepark is in great condition for as many people as possible to enjoy.”
The park – also known as Stockwell Sands or Brixton Beach – was built in 1978 and has since become one of London’s most popular skate sites.
The town hall said it had been working closely with the Friends of Stockwell Skatepark to make sure the designs “meet users’ needs”.
Work is due to start this month and is expected to take three months to complete.
The news comes more than a year after an open day was held to discuss design plans with skaters.
The council previously announced that work was due to start in January 2019.
