Lewisham becomes second South London area to go into lockdown as stabbings spread

Lewisham became the second South London borough to have a police clampdown imposed after stabbings this afternoon.

A section 60 order was imposed in the area this evening after three stabbings – all thought to be linked – near to each other. This came just hours after the same kind of order, allowing random weapons searches, were carried out using the same order in Lambeth following an attack on a teeanger.

Police are investigating the second incident, in Campshill Road, Lewisham, in which three men have suffered stab injuries.

Officers at 5.55pm this evening, Thursday, 24 October, to reports of a stabbing.

Officers and paramedics found a 19-year-old man with stab wounds.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. An update on his condition is awaited.

A short time later, a 20-year-old man attended a South London hospital with stab injuries. His condition has been assessed as non life-threatening.

Three males were arrested at the hospital on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. A Vauxhall Astra parked outside the hospital has been seized by police.

Officers in Lewisham were also called to Lewisham Park, shortly before 6pm to reports of a stabbing.

A 23-year-old man was found with stab injuries. He has been taken to hospital. An update on his condition is awaited.

At this early stage, officers believe the stabbings were all part of the same incident in a car park in Harvard Road.

A Mercedes car has been seized by police at this location and as well as a Vauxhall Astra in Fordyce Road.

A number of crime scenes are in place where the stabbing victims were found.

The section 60 has been put in place across the whole borough of Lewisham until 6am tomorrow, 25 October.
