Life-size kids TV characters pop up overnight across South London
Some of the best-known kids TV characters have popped up overnight across South London in life-size form.
Children’s TV characters Morph and Miffy have been reimagined as giant artworks as part of a new family-friendly pop-up experience in London.
A 3m-high statue of the timeless TV character Morph appeared over night at Potters Fields, next to Tower Bridge.
While an illuminated Miffy sculpture was spotted in Observation Point along the South Bank.
The giant artworks have been installed by Sky Kids, to mark the brand-new 24-hour TV channel launched for children under the age of seven
Miffy’s Adventures Big and Small and The Epic Adventures of Morph are set to air on the new channel from today, alongside a variety of brand-new Sky Original kids programmes that tackle themes such as climate change, emotional resilience, and mindfulness.
Known originally for his short one-minute segments during Take Hart with Tony Hart in the 1970s, Morph captured the love of the nation, remaining in the top three favourite characters today, according to new research by Sky Kids.
Half of the people surveyed in the research claim that shows they adored as a child could teach the current crop of youngsters’ important lessons.
Peter Lord, co-founder of the Academy Award-winning Aardman studios and co-creator of Morph, said: “It’s put a huge smile on my face seeing Morph rank so highly on this list of the nation’s favourite TV characters – it’s fantastic that his mischievous-self is loved today just as much as when I created him.
“Morph was there when today’s parents were kids, and he’ll be there for future generations in the same way.”
