Major road blocked as firefighters tackle blaze above shop in Lewisham

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters have been called to a fire at a flat above a shop on Lee High Road in Lewisham.

The whole of a balcony and a small part of a third floor flat are alight.

The London Fire Brigade’s 999 Control centre has received 16 calls alerting them to the fire.

The Brigade was called at around 4pm and is still at the scene. Fire crews from Greenwich, Deptford, New Cross and East Greenwich fire stations were in attendance.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
