Man arrested on suspicion of rape after Forest Hill sexual assault attack

A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape following a sexual assault attack on a woman in Forest Hill, Lewisham.

Police arrested a 41-year-old man from Forest Hill on Saturday, 2 January, after being identified through forensic identification.

He was taken to a South London police station where he has been released on bail until January 29.

A woman in her 20s with learning difficulties was reported missing on the evening of December 27 and returned home in the early hours of Monday, December 28.

When the woman arrived back home, the police were called and she then alleged that she had been sexually assaulted by the man who, by this point, had already left the address.

The woman stated that between midnight and 4.30am, the man took her to his flat in the Forest Hill area, near to where she lives, and sexually assaulted her.

It is not yet known how she met the man and police enquiries continue.
