Man dies after flat fire which saw five others escape

A man has died in hospital after he was rescued from a flat fire which five others also managed to escape.

The fire ripped through the ground floor flat in a two-storey house in Buckleigh Road, Streatham, in the early hours of Friday morning.

Firefighters rescued a man from the ground-floor. He was taken to hospital alongside another person, where he sadly later died. A further five people left the building before the London Fire Brigade (LFB) arrived.

The LFB was called at 0.10am and the fire was under control at around 1am.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Norbury, West Norwood and Tooting fire stations were in attendance.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
