Man in custody on suspicion of murdering woman in Lewisham
A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a woman in her 40s in Lewisham.
At around 6:40am yesterday, London Ambulance Service alerted police to a seriously injured woman in Hatfield Close – which is just off New Cross Road.
First responding officers were immediately deployed along with London’s Air Ambulance. Despite the emergency services best efforts, she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
About 15 minutes later, a 44-year-old man handed himself in at Lewisham Police Station in connection to the incident. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
It is believed the two parties are known to each other. Her next-of-kin have been informed and will be supported by specialist officers.
A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
The investigation continues.
