Man in hospital after collision with car speeding away from police

A man has been taken to hospital with “life-changing injuries” after the car he was driving collided with another car in a police chase.

At around 11.50pm last night, a BMW drove off from a marked police unit on routine patrol in Kent Gate Way, Croydon.

Shortly after, the BMW was involved in a collision with another car in Gravel Hill.

The Met confirmed a 39-year-old man, the only occupant of the second car, was taken to St George’s Hospital, Tooting, with potentially life-changing injuries.

A statement from the Met added: “Two female occupants of the BMW car that drove off from police have been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

“They have been taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

“A crime scene is in place at Gravel Hill and the road is currently closed.

“The Met has stated that the Directorate of Professional Standards and Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) have been notified.”
