Man left in critical condition after car crash as driver arrested on suspicion of drug driving

A man has been arrested on suspicion of driving while on drugs after a man in his 50s was left in a critical condition when he was hit by a car.

The Met was called at around 6pm yesterday to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Plumstead Common Road, Plumstead.

Officers attended, along with the London Ambulance Service, and the man was found with a head injury.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition. His family have been informed.

The driver of the car, a 27-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs. He remains in custody at South London police station.

Cops from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for any witnesses, or drivers with dash cam footage, to come forward.
