Man who lured 20-year-old victim to his death jailed for life

A man who lured his victim out into the open before he was stabbed to death has been jailed for life.

Ishmaiel Kallon, 23, of Kender Street, Greenwich, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 22 years for his role in the murder of Julian Ebanks, following a hearing at Woolwich Crown Court on Friday.

He was found guilty by a unanimous jury on September 30, after a four-week trial at the same court.

Mr Ebanks, 20, was fatally stabbed on Kender Street in the early hours of August 4, 2023.

The court heard that Kallon had phoned Mr Ebanks in the hours before the attack, to lure him out into the open in Kender Street.

Mr Ebanks was then stabbed by another man whilst Kallon kept watch as a ‘spotter’.

Police are still trying to locate the other man.

Mr Ebanks had left London earlier in the year fearing for his life, police said, but returned to attend a family member’s birthday party.

He had only been back in the capital for 90 minutes before he was murdered.

Mobile phone analysis showed that the attack was fuelled by a disagreement between the two men earlier in 2023.

Kallon was arrested on August, 10, 2023, and appeared at Bromley Magistrates Court the next day charged with Mr Ebanks murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Thorpe, who led the homicide investigation, said: “Kallon is a dangerous individual, who had no qualms about luring another man to his death.

“Our thoughts of course remain with the loved ones of Julian – we know this has been an extremely difficult time.”
