Mayfair residents blast plans for ‘six-star’ hotel
Neighbours have blasted plans for a six-star hotel over fears it will disturb their quiet neighbourhood.
Developers want to build a “boutique” eight-bedroom hotel and apartments in sleepy Park Street in Mayfair.
Under the proposals, the basement, first and second floors would be converted into high-end hotel rooms and a conference centre for events. There will also be two apartments for private purchase.
But the luxury Grade-II build has come under heavy scrutiny from residents, who claim it will ruin the feel of their Mayfair streets.
They also claim the hotel will overcrowd an already busy and narrow residential street, and make it “unlivable”.
In council documents, one unnamed resident said: “Parking, delivery services and trash collection are already strained.
“This development would create unsustainable congestion, noise and waste disposal that would destroy the character of our neighbourhood and make it unlivable.”
They claimed the development would also threaten the security of the neighbourhood, “with people congregating on the street to smoke, parties, consumption of alcohol and uncontrolled human traffic”.
Westminster City council approved the hotel’s licence on the condition it review residents’ concerns about smoking areas and the sale of alcohol.
The property owners have been contacted for comment.
