Member of the 999 Club team take part in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 for the homeless

A dozen cyclists each battled 100 miles to raise thousands of pounds for a South London
homelessness charity.
The team of three women and nine men took part in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 event earlier this month for the 999 Club, which runs a night shelter and drop-in day centre for homeless people in Lewisham.
The team joined thousands of other cyclists pedalling from Queen Elizabeth Park in east London to Surrey and back to finish at The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace.
Collectively, they raised more than £9,000 for the 999 Club.
One of the team who donned his Lycra to take part in the charity challenge was Jaimie Beers,
managing director of South London estate agents Madley Property.
He said: “Riding for the 999 Club in the Prudential 100 RideLondon has been a fantastic experience.
“Having such a big event in the diary means that every training session is important and when you’re raising funds for such a great cause it really makes you go the extra miles.
“To be able to take part in such a big event and to be able to do so for such an effective local charity is something I would thoroughly recommend to anyone.”
Trainee solicitor Gabriel Lim also took part in the challenge. Gabriel, who lives in Surrey Quays and volunteers for the 999 Club, said: “I really believe in what the 999 Club do, and I also happen to like cycling.
So when I saw an ad in the charity’s window asking for participants, I thought that any opportunity to get my friends and family to donate would be a good one.
“The high was definitely just being able to complete the course, and at a decent time to boot, considering my regular commute is all of three miles each way and I hardly trained.
“I’d say to anyone thinking of joining not to be worried about the distance – do put in at least half the distance while training to make sure you can actually stay in the saddle for a large number of hours, but the closed roads are amazing to cycle on and anyone thinking of doing this should definitely not be deterred by a lack of experience.
And definitely be shameless when asking for donations because you have nothing to lose!”
