Members of the public detained a man after a stabbing in the middle of Oxford Circus

Members of the public detained a man after a stabbing in the middle of Oxford Circus last night.

The victim is in a critical condition in hospital and a 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing.

The man was arrested after he was detained by members of the public at the scene.

He has been taken to a South London hospital for treatment to a head injury, which is not believed to be life-threatening.

Police were called shortly before 8pm last night to reports of a man stabbed on Oxford Circus, close to Regent Street.

Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following the stabbing.

A crime scene is in place and officers remain in the area.
