Mitcham mother pleads guilty to manslaughter after five-old-daughter died of stab wounds
A mother has admitted the manslaughter of her daughter who died after being stabbed at their family home in Mitcham.
Sutha Sivanantham, 36, of Monarch Parade, Mitcham pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility of five-year-old Sayagi Sivanantham following a hearing at the Old Bailey on Thursday June 24.
She has been sentenced to an indefinite hospital order.
Sayagi died following an incident on June 30 2020.
The emergency services were called to the address following reports that Sayagi had suffered stab injuries.
Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and Sayagi was taken to hospital where she died.
Sutha was also found suffering stab injuries and was taken to hospital where she remained for over two months receiving treatment before being discharged into police custody.
She was arrested and charged with Sayagi’s murder, but a plea of manslaughter was subsequently accepted.
Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin from the Met’s Specialist Crime said: “This is a truly tragic and complex case which has devastated the family and community and has had a huge impact on the investigation team. Our thoughts will always be with Sayagi.”
