More appeals over family car that came under fire in Ladbroke Grove

Police have issued a fresh appeal for information and witnesses following the shooting at a car in Ladbroke Grove that put two people in hospital.

Reports widely circulating in the media say that four members of the same family were in a vehicle fired upon in Southern Row at around 5.30pm on Sunday – although police are not confirming.

A 34-year-old man and an eight-year-old girl – believed to be his daughter – received serious gunshot injuries. Both remain in hospital.

The man suffered potentially life-changing injuries. Officers await a further assessment of the girl’s condition, however her injuries are not life-threatening.

Also present in the car was a two-year-old child and a 32-year-old woman – believed to be the mother of both youngsters – who were unharmed.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has been bailed to a date in early February pending further enquiries.

Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, including any motive.

Superintendent Owen Renowden, the lead for policing in Kensington and Chelsea, said: “The Met’s investigation is being led by detectives from the Specialist Crime Command who are working closely with our local teams.

“I recognise that any shooting has a traumatic impact on the local community. There will be a continued presence from our neighbourhood policing teams over the coming days and we are also working closely with our partners to provide additional reassurance.

“Although the investigation is progressing at pace, I want to appeal today to anyone with information that may assist to come forward.

“You can do so by calling 101 and quoting reference 5238/24Nov or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Among the residents left in shock about the terrifying incident is a man who lives in the road, quoted by the BBC as saying it was a “nightmare” situation to hear a young child had been injured in such a way.

He said: “It’s really sad. I hope that she’s in a better condition and that she gets well soon. It should not happen – this is a very lively area, there’s never any kind of trouble. But you never know, it can be problematic sometimes as well.”

Joe Powell, MP for Kensington and Bayswater, said: “These senseless acts of violence have no place on our streets. I know residents in the local community will be rightly concerned for their safety after several recent incidents in the neighbourhood.”
