New plan for almost 800 homes near Fairfield Halls in Croydon

More than two years after plans for 400 flats next to Croydon’s Fairfield Halls arts centre were dropped, a new company has revealed its intention to build a development twice the size.

Land between the centre and Croydon College was supposed to be built on by council-owned developer Brick by Brick, which is due to be wound up next year after contributing to the authority’s first bankruptcy notice.

Now, Delta Properties, the new owner of the site, wants to build up to 775 new homes in blocks between 10 and 38-storeys tall.

The developer is yet to submit a planning application but held its first public exhibition of initial plans this week.

As well as flats, Delta Properties claimed the development, which it is calling The Tapestry, would include space for an NHS facility as well as shop units and a mix of public and private gardens. It also includes opening a pedestrian route through to East Croydon railway station.

After buying the site in 2021, the developer expects to submit a full planning application to Croydon council this summer.
