Night trains added to ease pressure during Queen mourning period
Extra night-time train services are to run to help cope with the expected surge in numbers of people travelling into central London over the next few days.
The Queen will lie in state in Westminster Hall from 5pm today until 6.30am on Monday, the day of her funeral.
Queues are expected to last hours, well into the night, with Westminster Hall remaining open throughout the night to allow as many members of the public as possible to pay their respects.
At least a quarter of a million people are expected.
National Rail is postponing non-urgent engineering works in the coming week and is running extra trains to get people attending to and from central London.
Jason Webb, the Rail Delivery Group’s customer information director, said: “Understandably, many people wish to pay their respects to Her Majesty the Queen during this period of national mourning.
“On the day of the funeral, people should plan carefully the timing of their journey home as trains and stations are likely to be extremely busy.”
Extra overnight trains will operate from this evening until Monday from Charing Cross, Waterloo and Victoria, serving Clapham Junction, Denmark Hill, Brixton, Bromley and all points south. Some services will continue until around 4am.
You can check your journey details by using TfL Go or the National Rail Enquiries app.
