Person taken to major trauma centre after traffic collision

A main road that leads into South-west London was closed after a road traffic collision which a saw a person taken to a major trauma centre.

Emergency services closed the A3 approach to London, by Tolworth in New Malden, after the collision at around 2pm today.

The London Ambulance Service was called to the scene. Transport for London traffic cameras show traffic backed up on the A3 approach into London.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.55pm today to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction between South Lane and Bodley Road, New Malden.

“We sent a number of resources, including two ambulance crews, a medic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and a clinical team manager. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“Our first medics arrived in around three minutes.

“We treated a patient at the scene before taking them to a major trauma centre.”

A spokesman for the Met said: “Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 13:54hrs to a report of a road traffic collision on the A3, Malden Way.

“Officers are in attendance and road closures are being put in place. We await further details.”
