Police appeal for witnesses after 18-year-old stabbed in playground

Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was stabbed in a playground on Saturday evening.

Cops were called by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) shortly after 8pm to reports that a man had been stabbed and seriously injured at Streatham Common Playground.

The 18-year-old was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition, but is now stable and recovering, the Met said.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken into custody. He has since been bailed while further enquiries are carried out.

Detective Sergeant Matt Summerfield, leading the investigation, said: “We know this incident has caused significant concern in the community and we are working hard to identify anyone who may have been involved.

“This attack took place on a summer’s evening and we know there were other people in the area or close by. We have spoken to a number of these individuals but believe there are others who have information that could help our investigation.

“If you think you may have seen something or noticed anyone acting suspiciously, please contact us immediately.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days and officers will be happy to speak to anyone who has any questions.”

Anyone with information should call 101 with reference 6961/18May.

To remain anonymous, call the independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111 or visit crimestoppers-uk.org.”
