Police seize drugs, cash and a knife after spotting deal being done in the street

Thousands of pounds worth of hard drugs have been found by police in a house after spotting a cannabis deal being done in a busy street.

Officers from the Violence Suppression Unit (VSU) discovered hundreds of packets of suspected class A drugs, £60,000 in cash and a weapon at a house in Tooting.

Cops noticed what appeared to be a drug deal take place between two men, one inside a car at 8.20pm on Wednesday, 22 July on London Road, near Mitcham.

On one man they found an amount of cannabis in his possession. They searched inside the car that belonged to the second man, aged 24, nothing was found. While examining his phone for its identity number, officers saw a text relating to drug supply on the home screen.

He was arrested for being concerned in the supply of class A drugs and taken to police custody, where he remains.

Officers found 300-400 wraps of suspected class A drugs, 1.5 kilos of cannabis, approximately £60,000 cash and a large rambo style knife at his house.

Detective Inspector Alison Foxwell who runs South West BCU’s Violence Suppression Unit said: “This arrest shows just how valuable the VSUs are. The team were on proactive patrol in the area and spotted the deal take place. They have taken a significant amount of drugs and a weapon off the streets of London.

“Tackling violence in all its forms is the Met’s top priority and good work like this demonstrates we are making a difference.”

The VSUs are dedicated teams established to spearhead suppression activity at a local and neighbourhood level.
