Protesters detained after alleged disruption of Sigourney Weaver scene on West End stage
Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information after two protesters disrupted a theatre performance in central London last night.
At around 8pm, two Just Stop Oil protesters are said to have got on stage at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane. Police attended but both had left the venue.
Two people – a 42-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man – were subsequently arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass after attending a central London police station today. They remain in custody.
The venue is currently showing Shakespeare’s The Tempest, starring Hollywood star Sigourney Weaver and the pair are alleged to have entered the stage as she was performing.
Police say that anyone who was at the performance and witnessed this incident, or who has information that could assist their investigation, is asked to call officers on 101 quoting CAD 2453/28JAN. You can also ‘X’ @MetCC.
