Pupils deliver protective masks to NHS staff in Lewisham and Greenwich

Pupils of a secondary school have delivered protective masks to medics in need at a hospital at the sharp end of the coronavirus outbreak.

Students of the University Academy of Engineering (UAE) South Bank, in Southwark, gave more than 100 Chromebook laptop computers to students who would otherwise have issues accessing learning at home.

They have also provided dongles and data to those who have poor or non-existent internet access.

UAE teachers are all working hard preparing lessons, keeping in contact with students and even filming themselves teaching so that the students still feel that they are part of a living and caring community.

They have also launched the first of weekly online assemblies.

The school’s principal John Taylor said: “UAE South Bank is committed to serving and supporting its local community, and the incredible NHS staff working to fight the current pandemic.

“We are extremely proud of students attending school still who helped to collect over 50 goggles from science labs and  gave them to NHS staff at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, who need vital personal protective equipment.

“They believe that all students should have the same access to remote and digital learning and have worked hard to give all their students the same opportunities.”
