Queen Elizabeth II: Will there be a bank holiday for Queen’s funeral?

The date of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral is yet to be decided, but it is understood that there will be a bank holiday when it does happen.

Reports suggest that the funeral could take place on Monday September 19 at Westminster Abbey after a 10-day mourning period.

Bosses will not be ordered to give their employees the day off, but it is expected that many will do so, as the official day of mourning will coincide with that of Her Majesty’s funeral.

Plans are also being drawn up to allow schools to close for the day. The Department for Education said it would provide guidance after details of the funeral are confirmed by Buckingham Palace.

Most shops are expected to remain open during the mourning period and on the possible bank holiday, though some will close on the day of the funeral, particularly those close to the route of the procession.
