Safe Haven Women launch new fundraising campaign
A social enterprise which helps women recover from traumatic experiences has launched a new campaign.
Safe Haven Women launched its new campaign #SafeSpaceForHealing this week.
The social enterprise helps women recover from experiences such as domestic violence, domestic abuse, mental health issues and body dysmorphia, in a safe space.
Vivian Moyo, 37, of York Grove, Peckham, is the founder of Safe Haven Women.
Vivian, who was born in Zimbabwe and moved to the UK to live with her uncle when she was 11, said: “As a young girl, I was rejected by my father and my mum died when I was only three years old.
“Living with my uncle, I felt unloved and rejected and left home when I was 17 years old.
“By the time I was 24 I had been pregnant twice and lost two children. My pain then became my purpose.”
Safe Haven Women is driven by Vivian’s determination to help women who might be going through a similar trauma to the one she experienced.
The social enterprise is heavily dependent on external funding.
Vivian and her team require grants, donations and contributions from local authorities and charities.
Their aim is to raise £10,000 to afford their own building to allow the women they work with to fully recover in a safe space.
Donations received will also go towards food and clothes for disadvantaged women in the community, training for staff and to pay for lawyers and social workers.
