Shoppers and staff in Bromley helping raise thousands for cancer patients

By Maya Chavvakula

A shopping centre’s staff and customers are raising money for cancer treatment in a top hospital in London.

The Glades shopping centre in Bromley is hosting a fundraiser today, 15 June, from 11am-4pm to collect cash for Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich.

The Festival of Colour will include a prize wheel which, for a small donation, can be spun for a chance to win goodies.

The money raised will be used to help cancer patients in the children’s cancer and leukaemia unit, Tiger Ward, and the Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Unit in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Mark Haynes, director of The Glades, pictured, said: “This is a fantastic event that allows our community to come together whilst helping children that really need support.”

The Glades will have a host of activities to keep event goers entertained all day and they will also let the public contribute to their Wall of Colour, a brightly hued feature at the centre.

Festival of Colour is a part of One Great Day, an annual fundraising day, which organises a series of community events in 200 shopping centres across the UK to raise money for Great Ormand Street Hospital and other charities.

Michal Noe, trustee of One Great Day, said: “We are thrilled to have The Glades as one of 200 shopping centres taking part this year, helping so many ill children across the country.

“We are so grateful to CBRE, Lockton, Montague Evans and Savills, our official corporate partners, whose sponsorship means that every penny put in our collection buckets goes directly to these worthy charities.”
